As mentioned in my last post, I’m not one for setting new years resolutions. How boring am I?! Well not so much boring (hopefully!) as just being one for having an idea on what I’d like to achieve during the year without setting any particular dates or very specific measurable goals. There are also always life events that happen during the year (planned or otherwise!) and I believe in being flexible enough to change things to help me achieve the things I want to achieve.
So what am I looking to do this year and what’s in store for me in 2018?
The single biggest thing that will be happening this year is of course the house move! YAYYYYYY!!!!! And I’m so excited for it, I can’t even explain how much. I’m really looking forward to making it my new home, taking the shell of a new house and making it into my own beautiful little space. I’m also looking forward to getting all my possessions out of storage back into my own house again! Making it into a home is not going to happen overnight, nor even within a week or two. But I can get the majority of it sorted within a few days of moving in and then over the course of the next few months I can put the finishing touches to it. SO. FRIGGING. EXCITED.
There’s still a way to go before I get there though as I’m still not expecting to move in until the summer, so still a few months away yet. But I’m counting down the days!
Other than the house move, I don’t actually have any big plans yet. To be honest, the house is going to use up pretty much all of my money so I can’t do much else that’s big and exciting! But that’s ok. You don’t always need to do big things to have a great life, sometimes the smaller things can be equally as rewarding and fulfilling.
So what smaller things have I got planned then? Well, if you read one of my posts from a few weeks ago you’ll know that I’m going to (try!) and be a better blogger. What I mean by that is that I’m going to post regularly and start using all of the tools at a bloggers disposal to try and grow my blog a bit more. I’ve got the hang of scheduling now and it was a god send during December – being able to write several posts in one night and then have them post automatically at the time I wanted them posted was so much easier than writing them as and when. So I’ll be continuing with that as much as possible for sure!
I’d like to get to grips with using Bloglovin’. I am on there but I haven’t a clue how to use it properly yet, so that’s one task. I also need to up my Instagram game A LOT. I created a new Instagram handle specifically for the blog and I haven’t used it to it’s full potential yet. So that’s my second task.
Getting involved in blogger chats on Twitter is also another thing I really want to do. There’s nothing like a bit of networking is there and I hope to make a few more blogger friends that way! Admittedly I don’t always comment on other peoples blogs as much as I should, so I really will make more of an effort to comment on all the great blogs I read. There are so many fabulous ones out there and people do such a good job with their blogs that I’d like to take the time to appreciate their work more.
I don’t really have an end goal as such with the blog, I really just want people to enjoy reading it and hopefully look forward to my posts being published. I don’t have a ‘niche’, I just blog about a lot of random stuff, and that’s not really going to change. So I’ll just keep on doing what I’m doing and see where it takes me. Although I hope to be able to blog about a few more subjects, especially once I’m all settled in the new house!
Other than blogging, my smaller aims include reading more – I’d really like to finish the Poldark novels this year! – and to do much more of my Spanish lessons so that I can actually speak the language. I’ve been trying for two years now and only learnt a little bit so I must try harder.
I’m sure there’ll be a few trips away in amongst everything else, especially to Prague once or twice and hopefully to New York as well. But holidays are going to have to take a back seat for this year. I can’t complain about that really, last year was particularly spectacular for holidays so a year off won’t kill me! And there are other priorities this year anyway (see above!).
There is one other thing I’m considering for when I’ve settled in to the new house, but at the moment I don’t want to say what it is in case I can’t do it for whatever reason. And I know it’s really annoying when people do that – write something cryptic and then don’t say what it’s about! – but I’m really just writing it down so that I can look back in a years time and see whether I did manage to do it or not!
There’ll be lots of challenges this year, especially at work. There’s still a lot of change to come which is never easy, but all you can do is roll with it and try and find the positive and the good in situations like that.
And there we have it. There’s actually quite a lot planned for me in 2018 and I’m really looking forward to all of it! Roll on this year 🙂
I hope you’ve got lots of exciting plans for 2018 too. Much love! x
